Highlights from the 2006 PetroSun Independence Bowl championship season for Oklahoma State Cowboy Football. Fueled by a high-octane offense, the Pokes returned to bowl play for the fourth time in five seasons under Mike Gundy in his second year coaching his alma mater. Offensive standouts Bobby Reid, Adarius Bowman, and Dantrell Savage made their mark, leading the Cowboys to exciting wins. Reid and Bowman shattered records in a mid-season match-up at Kansas, when the Cowboys stormed from behind to defeat the Jayhawks 42-32. Two weeks later, the Cowboys took down Nebraska 41-29 in Stillwater in one of the more memorable games in recent history. The Cowboys defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2006 Independence Bowl. Once again, OSU’s high-flying offense set the tone and imposed their will on a tough Alabama defense.
